After 17 years of practice in the field of hypnotherapy, I have seen clients make some wonderful changes in their lives. Health issues, behavior patterns, athletic performance, study habits, stress reduction and so much more. Hypnotherapy is traditionally seen as a directive therapy where suggestions have a positive impact on the subconscious and that is true. Other techniques used by hypnotherapists may include uncovering stuck beliefs, hypnotic regression or subconsciously re-experiencing a past event. These and other techniques are taught in the American Council of Hypnotist Examiner certified schools. In my opinion, however, each of us is our own best therapist. Each of us has a connection with the part of our mind or spirit if you will, that can guide us perfectly. I believe that connection is enabled and enhanced by the practice of self-hypnosis or meditation. Because of this belief, I am now emphasizing the instruction of self-hypnosis/meditation as the primary focus of my practice. This involves three or four sessions and includes instructions on how to do self-hypnosis and use it as meditation or to shift it into a pro-active form and utilize visualization. The benefits of meditation or self-hypnosis are many and recounted in many places online. In addition, the way to reach specific goals can be a spontaneous result of such a practice.
